Das liegt alles auf ein und derselben Ebene.
Menschen, getrieben von einer Mischung aus Schuld- und Minderwertigkeitskomplex, suchen nach einer Lösung, um ihrem langweiligen Leben irgendeinen Sinn zu geben.
Erinnert auch an den Umbenennungs- und Regulierungswahn in den (damaligen) beiden deutschen Staaten.
Einem Waschzwang, welcher in der Hoffnung seine eigene, so geliebte "weiße Weste" vom "Makel der Herkunft" befreien zu können, eher krankhafte Züge aufweist.

UNION BERLIN are back in Europe. The side from Kopenick, south-east of the German capital, qualified for Uefa’s new Europa Conference League tournament thanks to a seventh-place finish in the league last season and a win against Finnish club Kuopion Palloseura in the qualifying playoff.
It’s an achievement not to be underestimated for a club that only played top-flight football for the first time in 2019, and were predicted to go straight back down to the second division following that historic promotion.
Union have now avoided relegation for two seasons in a row. Not only that, they finished a respectable 11th in their debut Bundesliga season and built on that last year, proving their progress was no fluke.
Their success cannot be underestimated. As a club controlled entirely by its supporter-members, many predicted they would struggle against the more blatantly commercial clubs in German football.
They have more than held their own so far, though, and even achieved this remarkable European qualification.
Even though Union only made their first appearance in Germany's top-flight in 2019, this isn’t their first foray into continental competition.
Back in 2001 a run to the final of the DFB Pokal — the German version of the FA Cup — saw them qualify for the following season’s Uefa Cup.
They lost to Schalke in the Pokal final but, seeing as their opponents had already qualified for Europe via the league, Union qualified via the cup route as runners-up.
During that cup run, Union were still playing in the Regionalliga Nord, then the regional third tier of German football, but were promoted to the Bundesliga second division that season.
Once in Europe, they managed to progress past the first round, defeating Finnish side FC Haka but were knocked out by Litex Lovech or Bulgaria in the second round.
There are a couple of parallels with this season — the victory against Finnish opponents in the first round and the inability to play home games at the Stadion An der Alten Forsterei due to it not meeting Uefa’s requirements — but this time around Union arrive on the continent as the seventh-best team in Germany rather than an extraordinary lower league side.
There are still extraordinary elements to this club, though, which make their achievements all the more notable.
As covered in this column previously, Union are run entirely by their fans. This means supporters and members retain all of the voting rights and, in theory, the club cannot be controlled by external investors or sponsors.
The 50+1 rule in Germany prevents a total takeover from an outside investor, at least in terms of voting rights, but few clubs still operate with 100 per cent supporter involvement as Union do.
This was supposed to place Union at a disadvantage in a game increasingly driven by money and extravagant investment, but they have shown there is another way to define success that can also bring good results on the pitch at the top level.
A 2013 article by Christoph Biermann for German magazine 11 Freunde, translated into English by Jon Darch for Union In Englisch, touched upon the commercial aspect of the club.
It contains a quote from Union’s president Dirk Zingler who says: “Our sponsors are just as important to us as the ordinary fan.
“But in our environment sponsors can only be successful if their promotion is in keeping with what we stand for and if they respect the expectations of our fans.”
Sponsorship is a part of supporter-run clubs just as it is at any other, but at Union the sponsors need to fit the club rather than the club changing its own traditions to please a sponsor as can be the case elsewhere.
Progress brings additional exposure and additional problems, but a club such as Union are better equipped to deal with them due to the way they are run.
Many disagreed with real estate company Aroundtown becoming the club’s main shirt sponsor in 2019. The club eventually stuck with them due to a long-term relationship with the company’s then deputy CEO, Andrew Wallis, who had already supported the club as a sponsor in various forms for over a decade.
On extending their sponsorship with the club this year, Aroundtown agreed that for the final day of last season their shirt sponsor logo should be replaced with a message to supporters — Danke Unioner — acknowledging fans’ ongoing support throughout the coronavirus crisis.
These are the type of issues such member-run clubs face as they rise up the leagues and, as has been the case with Union, enter the high-profile world of Uefa competition.
It’s a shame Union cannot play their European home games at the atmospheric Alten Forsterei as it would bring something special to the competition.
Union’s fans hope to take that atmosphere with them on their travels, though, as around 3,000 of them did in their first game against Slavia in Prague on Thursday.
It was apt that Union’s first goal back in Europe was scored by Kevin Behrens, a player who himself has risen from the lower leagues of German football, joining Union from Bundesliga second division side SV Sandhausen this summer.
The 30-year-old’s strike put Union back on level terms after Slavia took the lead early on, but two late goals from the Czech champions saw Union fall to a 3-1 defeat in their first group game.
Union can now look forward to games against Feyenoord and Maccabi Haifa as they embrace the European challenge, and the still-difficult task of competing in the Bundesliga.
“If anyone says they don’t want to play somewhere in Europe on a Thursday night, then Union Berlin probably isn't for them this year,” goalkeeper Andreas Luthe told Deutsche Welle earlier this year.
“We struggled for a whole year for a chance to play in the Conference League, so I won't tolerate anybody who’s not looking forward to it.”
The club’s supporters are certainly looking forward to it as they look to take that Union spirit, already renowned in Germany, across the continent.
